Whilst car security has improved they remain a valuable target and mass production can mean that loopholes in security can become common knowledge and additional security is required. Keys can be obtained through burglary, hooking through letter boxes and threats to owners. Caravans, trailers and boats can be easily stolen and their appearances changed.

The police and the British Parking Association operate the Safer Parking Award which recognises those car park operators that have added security features and management processes to reduce the risk of crime. Look for the Park Mark logo to identify safer places to park or visit their website at www.saferparking.com
Park Mark® - the Safer Parking Scheme - is an initiative of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO/S) aimed at reducing crime and the fear of crime in parking areas. The Safer Parking Scheme works at reducing crime and the fear of crime in car parks.
The Park Mark® award is granted to parking areas that have achieved the requirements of a risk assessment as conducted by the Police. These requirements mean the parking operator has put in place measures that help to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, thereby doing everything they can to prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime in their parking area. If you are interested in the types of features that are assessed the guidelines can be found here.
For customers, using a Park Mark® Safer Parking area means that the area has been vetted by the Police and has measures in place in order to create a safe environment. There are now around 4,500 car parks throughout the UK with the award. All Park Mark car parks can be found on the official Safer Parking search engine at www.parkmark.co.uk.
The scheme is managed by the British Parking Association and supported by the Home Office and Scottish Government.
