The 'Secure Warm Modern' programme in Nottingham
Crime report Study carried out as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Nottingham City Homes and Nottingham Trent University looks at how Secured by Design windows helped to reduce burglaries.
Re-evaluating SBD Housing in West Yorkshire (2.3MB approx.)
This survey mirrored the original survey of 1999 and took into account the improvements made in SBD requirements over 10 years. The results were very positive, replicating the earlier reductions in crime and fear of crime compared with non-Secured by Design estates and West Yorkshire as a whole.
Secured by Design impact evaluation (495KB approx.)
The Caledonian Environment Centre was commissioned by GHA, Strathclyde Police and Secured by Design to analyse the impact of Secured By Design door and window installation within GHA housing stock. The evaluation was supported by the Scottish Government.

A report by Professor Martin gill and Professor Kevin Pease looks at the benefits of security and good design compared to the cost. It discusses the benefits of designing out crime in new and refurbished developments (direct and indirect) and how these benefits may be realised.

Research shows crime's carbon footprint is 11.6 million tonnes a year. This research includes data on crime’s cost to the environment and proves it is an environmental issue.
Securing the Nation - the case for safer homes (1.8MB approx.)
Published by the Association of British Insurers, this report supports case for Secured by Design levels of security and calls for its wider adoption and identifies the benefits to the wider audience, the economy and householders.
The Capital Costs of Secured by Design accreditation, Davis Langdon (7MB approx.)
Davis Langdon Associates established the cost for Secured by Design for the 2006 ABI report Securing the nation at £480 to £740 depending on property. Their revised costs for 2010 show dramatic reductions to £70 to £240, reflecting the increased availability and competitiveness of relevant products.

This model has been developed to help police forces calculate the Carbon Cost and Cost Efficiency Savings that can be gained from incorporating the principles of SBD as part of a range of activities.
