British Gypsum’s latest separating wall system, which fulfils the Secured by Design (SBD) attack requirement and also meets the fire and acoustic regulations, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the London Construction and Design Awards, part of London Build, October 2018.
The GypWall QUIET system, which has been designed for use within residential buildings, is a finalist in the ‘Product Innovation of the Year’ category.
Winners are due to be announced at a dinner on Tuesday, 23 October.
The new GypWall QUIET system has been tested and certified to the onerous STS 202 BR1 attack standard by Exova Wednesbury, an independent UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) approved test laboratory, which requires regular re-tests and production audits of the manufacturing process to ensure that product quality is maintained over time.
The system has gone on to achieve the coveted Police Preferred Specification award from SBD having met its robust requirements to deter criminal activity and reduce crime.
In addition, British Gypsum and SBD have worked together to develop an SBD supported GypWall QUIET system Approved Installer Course. The course is designed to familiarise sub-contractors with the system and the performance it delivers as well as ensuring they are up to speed with the correct installation method. The course will help ensure the system performs as intended.
GypWall QUIET is a non-load bearing, twin-framed acoustic separating wall, for use within residential apartments and housing developments where high levels of acoustic performance are required. Gyproc Habito® plasterboard has been included to add a strong, engineered core to provide enhanced levels of strength and durability, resulting in a wall that is attack resistant and can support a range of fixtures and fittings.
Importantly, the product provides a durable outcome without adding extra materials, such as plywood or metal mesh, which would have presented sub-contractors with health and safety risks and complex installations, as well as difficulties for designers in detailing specifications to meet performance targets.
British Gypsum believes GypWall QUIET is the first accredited system available on the market that fulfils the SBD attack requirement, and meets fire and acoustic regulations for a residential separating wall, providing peace of mind to all building end users that they are safe with the space that they occupy.
Since its launch four years ago, London Build has grown to become a huge construction event to showcase opportunities in building and construction in London and the South of England. The Awards recognise achievements, developments and innovation within London’s construction industry and feature a wide range of categories for providers, contractors, architects, developers and local authorities.
London Build is at Olympia, London W14 8UX on 23-24 October, 2018.
