Professionals and students of criminology, architecture and policing from South Korea have visited the UK over recent years to examine Secured by Design and elements of CEPTED – crime prevention through environmental design. Now an international conference on CEPTED in Seoul has concluded with the signing of an MOU for cooperation and exchange of information between the Korea CEPTED Association (KCA), the International CEPTED Association (ICA) and Secured by Design.
200 delegates representing architects, planners, police and academia listened to speakers from Korea, New Zealand, Australia and the UK. Alan McInnes, Director ACPO CPI, and Durham DCC Stephen Watson, NPCC Lead for Crime Prevention, gave presentations and met with Assistant Commissioner Lee Sang-Won, National Police Agency for Korea, and other officers who would like to adopt Secured by Design.
After signing the MOU with Justin Choi, KCA President, and Tony Lake, ICA Chairman, Alan McInnes said, "It is acknowledged that environmental design, physical security standards and appreciation of crime trends, when brought together, reduce crime. This MOU formalises the desire to share experiences and develop our projects for changing communities and crime prevention."
