Archibald Kenrick and Sons celebrates 25 years with Secured by Design

Archibald Kenrick and Sons is celebrating 25 years as a member of Secured by Design, marking a significant milestone for a company with more than two centuries of manufacturing heritage.

Established in 1791, Kenricks has evolved from its origins as an ironfounder to become a leading supplier of high quality window and door hardware. The company is known for developing robust and reliable security solutions, with a long history of innovation that continues to shape the modern hardware market.

Throughout its development, Kenricks has maintained a focus on advancing security technology. Early innovations included the production of cylinder door locks in the early 1900s and a strong contribution to wartime manufacturing during both World Wars. The business later transitioned to zinc alloy die-casting in the 1960s, paving the way for new product development in aluminium hardware and castors.

The 1990s saw the launch of several groundbreaking security products, including the Sabre Lock, Sentri Lock and the patented Excalibur shootbolt system, which strengthened the company’s position within the fenestration industry. Continued investment in research and development has led to further modern solutions, from the introduction of split spindle door locks in 2014 to the recent launch of an internet of things-based product, designed to meet the demands of contemporary security requirements.

Kenricks offers a wide portfolio of SBD accredited products, including the Easi-Fit Lock, Interceptor, Excalibur Door Lock and K3Star Cylinder, as well as an extensive range of window hardware such as the Excalibur Shootbolt, Centurion Shootbolt System, Nemesis bi-directional espagnolette, friction stays, hinge protectors and the Maximus twin cam lock.

Over the last 25 years as an SBD member, Kenricks has demonstrated a consistent commitment to rigorous testing, product reliability and the delivery of secure hardware solutions for the UK market.

Andy Meakin, National Sales and Marketing Manager at Kenricks, said: "The team is immensely proud of this recognition. It reinforces the role our products play in supporting crime prevention across the UK. We would like to thank Secured by Design for this recognition and we look forward to continuing our partnership as we strive to set the benchmark for hardware security in the years ahead."

Hazel Goss, Secured by Design, said: “It was an honour to present Archibald Kenrick and Sons their 25 year award for being long standing members with Secured by Design. Archibald Kenrick and Sons were established back in 1791 and are still going strong today, offering various locks and hardware for the commercial and domestic markets. Hopefully they will remain as valued members with Secured by Design for another 25 years to come!”

Secured by Design

Secured by Design (SBD) is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.

SBD seeks to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area using products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems along with fencing systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.

SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through the Police Preferred Specification - a product-based accreditation scheme developed 25 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
