Claire Cashmore secures her bike in an SBD Asgard Bike Shed

Secured by Design member Asgard Secure Steel Storage continue to support British athletes, supplying secure storage to keep their equipment safe.

Over the years Asgard has installed a range of their high-security bike sheds for professional athletes to store their bikes and cycling equipment at home, and Claire Cashmore MBE, Paralympic Swimming Champion and International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Champion, is the latest in a long line of professional athletes to choose Asgard storage to store valuable sports equipment in. Claire was originally put in touch with Asgard by her fellow teammates and Asgard shed owners.

Claire is a Paralympic swimming champion winning gold and silver in the Rio Olympics in 2016. However, Claire has a career change and switched to train as a Paratriathlon, becoming equally successful – she is currently the ITU World Champion, winning a number of gold and silver medals throughout 2019. Claire also broke the world record in the SM9 100mm Individual Medley in 2009.

Claire may also be recognisable from Channel 4’s Meet the Superhumans campaign in 2012, as she was on billboards across the country and spoke openly about her disability. Claire will also compete in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Claire chose the SBD accredited Centurion Bike Shed, which is a family bike storage shed that can store up to six bikes. Claire and her partner Dave Ellis - also a 3x ITU World and ETU European Champion holder - together have a number of bikes and other sports equipment between them which requires storage.

Security played an important role in Claire’s shed selection, and the Centurion range is packed with security features giving peace of mind and keeping bikes safe. The shed is manufactured in the UK from tough, galvanised (weatherproof) steel and features an integral base which bolts to the ground for even more security. The Asgard Centurion range also features reinforced doors, welded hinges, a pick-and-drill resistant lock and a shrouded 5-point locking mechanism with an anti-theft handle designed to shear off in an attempted break-in. All these security features make the metal shed Loss Prevention Certification Board level 1 certified, UK Locksmith Association approved, Insurance approved and of course, accredited by Secured by Design having achieved Police Preferred Specification.

Claire said “A couple of friends recently bought an Asgard bike shed and were very happy customers. I agree the Asgard products and team are fabulous and 100 percent worth the investment - the shed is amazing! It’s made such a difference having somewhere secure to put my bike. I am also hoping to use it as a turbo room for a bit of heat prep".

SBD Technical Manager Alfie Hosker said: “The number of world class athletes who continue to select and use the Asgard Bike Shed continues to grow and is testimony to the reputation of their secure bike sheds. I know that Claire and her family will be delighted with it and wish her all the best in the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics”.
