Firth Doors and Hardware continues long standing partnership with Secured by Design

Founded in 1982 as Ian Firth Hardware, the independently owned business has built a strong reputation for supplying external composite doorsets, internal doors, ironmongery and associated building products to housebuilders nationwide. Operating from a single facility in West Yorkshire, the company provides a weekly national delivery service, supporting projects across the country.

Innovation has remained central to the business throughout its history, particularly in product design and testing. Firth’s external composite doorsets are tested to the latest standards for security, durability and weathertightness, ensuring that products continue to meet the evolving requirements of the construction and housing sectors.

The company has a number of Secured by Design accredited products, including the Lake Collection Range of composite residential doors. In addition, its accredited security hardware includes TS007 3* rated cylinder/lever solutions.

Alongside its Secured by Design accreditation, the company also holds a range of recognised industry certifications, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, FSC, PEFC and BSI Kitemark accreditation. Membership of both the Door and Hardware Federation and the Glass and Glazing Federation’s Association of Composite Door Manufacturers further reflects its commitment to quality, compliance and best practice.

The renewal of Firth’s membership for an 18th year highlights its continued dedication to supplying products that support safer and more secure homes, while maintaining the high standards expected by housebuilders and specifiers across the UK.

Secured by Design

Secured by Design is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.

SBD seeks to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area using products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems along with fencing systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.

SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through the Police Preferred Specification - a product-based accreditation scheme developed over 25 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
