LITELOK launches the ultimate wearable bike lock

British lock manufacturer & Secured by Design member company LITELOK launches the ultimate high-security portable bike lock, the LITELOK CORE BIKE: the latest in a string of award-winning bike, e-bike and motorcycle locks.

This pioneering Welsh start-up – brainchild of Professor Neil Barron – offers cyclists a UK-made lock which combines ultimate security with portability: a timely launch that affords genuine peace of mind, given the dramatic rise in UK bike theft.

The number of UK cyclists increases year on year, with a real boom in sales of e-bikes. These larger framed e-bikes require longer and more flexible locks that can accommodate large batteries and motors, plus the varying shapes and sizes of new e-bike models.

To overcome these issues, LITELOK has created the LITELOK CORE FLEX and LITELOK CORE PLUS: both lightweight (1.7kg upwards) and flexible (increased reach and flexibility to lock around any frame or fixed object, an ability to mount the lock onto the bike, or wear safely whilst riding with a Universal Wearable Kit), yet incredibly secure making it a good option when out and about. Capable of deterring even the most persistent thief, the LITELOK CORE FLEX AND PLUS is the company’s most secure lock range to date and winner of a 2021 Red Dot Design Award.

CORE FLEX CORE PLUS

The specification details for the LITELOK CORE FLEX AND PLUS are as follows:

LITELOK CORE FLEX: Gold standard flexible bike security

  • Design based on LITELOK’s patented lock technology Boaflexicore +. This comprises: a multi-filament high tensile steel inner core for tensile strength, radial reinforcement (which gives an additional element of flex), a rugged corrosion-resistant and weatherproof plant-based polymer, and an abrasion-resistant braided outer sleeve. This is then joined to a hardened steel in-line lock casing with drill resistant stainless-steel rivets and pick-resistant disc detainer style lock
  • A click-to-lock system makes securing a bike quick and easy, without the need for a key. A key is only required for unlocking the bike (and each lock comes with three keys, in case of loss)
  • 75cm in length (coils down to 15cm)
  • Gold insurance-rated lock. Tested and accredited by UK and EU industry experts, meeting the ‘Police Preferred Specification’ of Secured by Design (SBD) providing the best deterrent for cyclists looking to secure high-value bikes and e-bikes
  • Available in Boa Green and Cobra Black
  • Priced at £109.99
  • Available through litelok.com and leading cycle specialists across the UK

LITELOK Founder/CEO, Professor Neil Barron comments: “Fed up with having to carry around heavy locks, I thought there must be a way to create highly secure portable bike locks. LITELOK CORE is a complete reengineering of LITELOK’s existing locks and takes its place at the pinnacle of lightweight lock engineering.”

Professor Neil Barron is well-versed in the world of engineering and design. As a qualified Aeronautical Engineer (Rolls-Royce aero engines) as well as an alumnus from the prestigious Royal College of Art in London, he combined his passions for motorcycling, engineering and design by creating a solution previously unheard of: lightweight, flexible and secure bike locks.

Doug Skins, Secured by Design, said: “I’m delighted that LITELOK are launching innovative new products and adding to their range of bicycle security products which have achieved SBD’s Police Preferred Specification. These products offer cyclists a UK-made lock which combines both security and portability”.

LITELOK recently opened a new larger manufacturing facility in Swansea, Wales and an EU distribution centre in The Netherlands as part of the company’s ongoing growth. LITELOK collaborates with some of the world's leading material scientists at Swansea University (among others), working jointly to advance technical know-how in the sector. Professor Neil Barron and his team of passionate bikers and cyclists play a key role in the local community and, as a leading UK start-up, LITELOK is proud to play an integral part in the local Welsh economy. In 2021, LITELOK won an award from Fast Growth 50 Wales.
