MACO UK Celebrates 40 Years of Partnership, Innovation and Growth

Since establishing its UK operation in 1986, MACO UK has grown into one of the country's leading suppliers of door, window and sliding door hardware for the fenestration industry. Operating from its headquarters in Kent, the company combines the strength of the family-owned MACO Group with a longstanding commitment to innovation, quality and customer service.

An SBD member for many years, MACO continues to offer an extensive range of police-recognised hardware across door, window and locking applications, helping manufacturers and fabricators deliver products that meet recognised security standards.

To mark the milestone, MACO welcomed customers, partners and industry colleagues to its headquarters on 1 July for a celebration recognising the relationships that have helped shape the business over the past four decades. Guests had the opportunity to meet the MACO team, explore the company's latest innovations, including Sense by MACO, and look back on key moments in the company's history.

The event reflected the values that have underpinned MACO UK's success since 1986. Throughout the day, presentations highlighted the company's journey, from the introduction of pioneering hardware solutions such as the MKI Shootbolt and i.S. mushroom cam, through to today's connected technologies and continued investment in product development. The central message was simple: after 40 years, strong partnerships remain at the heart of the business.

As part of the wider MACO Group, which has been family owned since 1947, the company continues to manufacture exclusively in Austria while supporting customers across the UK with innovative hardware solutions, technical expertise and reliable service.

Kevin Whiting, Managing Director of MACO UK, said: “This isn't about us just celebrating being in the industry for 40 years. It's about thanking our partners for being part of that journey over that time. That recognition, that between the two of us we've developed really long-standing, trusting relationships that hopefully will continue to go on for many more years.”

Secured by Design is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.

SBD seeks to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area using products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems along with fencing systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.

SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through the Police Preferred Specification - a product-based accreditation scheme developed over 25 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
