Retailers Crime Prevention Toolkit

A free crime prevention toolkit for retailers has been designed at the request of the Home Office, through a collaboration between the National Business Crime Centre (NBCC) and Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI). The toolkit aims to provide useful information and guidance to support businesses in keeping safe from crime and helping to prevent crime impacting staff.

Securing businesses does not have to be a costly endeavour and many of the crime prevention measures outlined in the booklet may already be in place. The information provided can be used to review current arrangements and identify any areas for improvement.

Information included in the toolkit includes:

  • Physical security
  • Cyber security
  • Safety & Security
  • Prevention
  • Reporting
  • Offender management
  • Training
  • Employee support
  • Corporate support

Superintendent Lisa Maslen, the National Business Crime Centre lead, said: “I am delighted that this course and toolkit that have been produced are now available.  They will be an invaluable resource for retailers and policing colleagues in our bid to tackle retail crime together.  Keeping those who work in retail and our communities safe by disrupting retail crime remains the NBCCs priority, this toolkit will go a long way to help deliver that.”

Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI) were funded by the Home Office to provide crime prevention expertise, advice and assistance on delivery of crime prevention interventions, to all Safer Streets Fund projects being delivered by Policing, Police and Crime Commissioners and Local Authorities.

The Police Crime Prevention Academy also offers a wide range of Qualifications and Continuous Professional Development courses. They are perfect for officers and staff at all levels and offer a good opportunity to upskill and refresh knowledge in the workplace. Click here to find out more about these courses.
