Reynaers renews commitment to police security scheme to reassure homeowners on safety

Aluminium door and window specialist, Reynaers Aluminium UK, has renewed its membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative that sets a standard for safety in residential properties.

Established in 1965, Reynaers Aluminium is a leading European specialist in the development and marketing of innovative and sustainable aluminium solutions for windows, sliding and folding door systems, and curtain walling.

Committed to quality and the constant development of products, Reynaers puts a strong emphasis on security, making robust, high-performance systems that combine stylish aesthetics with strength and safety.

With a strong portfolio of sliding door systems that are used in corner-to-corner projects to open up property walls to the outside, as well as windows and doors, security is integral to the designs. To ensure its products meet the stringent demands of PAS 24, which enables products to meet Document Q and, in turn, SBD, Reynaers will create specific components to support fabrication where needed.

Reynaers supplies the components for Secured by Design products to a number of approved fabricator companies for a wide range of doorsets and window products. This includes a variety of aluminium doorsets, including double and single leaf, inward and outward opening, patio doorsets and slide systems. Their accredited window products include inward and outward opening, side and top hung, tilt and turn, tilt before turn, and casement windows.

This covers many of the company’s product ranges including MasterPatio, ConceptPatio, ConceptSystem, HiFinity, MasterLine and SlimLine.

As well as safety, Reynaers is focused on creating thermally efficient windows and doors that help to reduce energy emissions and has taken a leading position on sustainability within the industry. In 2022 the company furthered its environmental sustainability commitment, by signing up to science-based targets and has committed to reduce its direct CO² emissions by 46% and indirect emissions by 55% by 2030.

John McComb, Technical Services Director at Reynaers Aluminium, said: “Security will always be a top priority for homeowners and Reynaers recognises that by ensuring its products meet stringent security standards and that fabrication requirements are met in the design and development of products.”

Secured by Design is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.

The scheme seeks to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area through encouraging the use of products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems along with fencing systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.

Secured by Design Development Officer Ruari Robertson said: “I am delighted that Reynaers Aluminium, which has been a valued member since 2010, has renewed its membership for a further three years. I look forward to our continued working relationship over the coming years.”

SBD works with a number of partner organisations, ranging from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers as well as with standards and certification bodies.

The scheme is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through its Police Preferred Specification - a product-based accreditation scheme developed over 20 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD works with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
