Solidcor join Secured by Design

Solidcor is one of the latest system-house companies to join Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative.

Solidcor join SBD with their dual certified Solidcor R30 Timber Door System having achieved Police Preferred Specification.

The Solidcor R30 Timber Door System is a maintenance free, Third Party certificated doorset which has been fire tested, smoke tested, weather tested, security tested and endurance tested.

The Solidcor R30 Timber Door System resulted from the wish-list of London Housing Association with a 40,000 plus property portfolio. Architect led, the Housing Association asked for a fire rated doorset designed to assist the less able using the Rutland door closer with slide arm and controlled closing and latch action. The door closer was to be fitted overhead out of reach of children’s fingers to reduce risk associated with finger trap injuries, and the entire doorset had to be fire tested, using multipoint locks, and be security tested to PAS 24. The system was also required to be low maintenance due to limited budget - the Solidcor R30 Timber Door System was the result.

Ian Hughes MD of Solidcor said: “We listened to our customers. We listened to the housing associations. They were troubled because they had seen the Grenfell disaster, they’d seen product used in the Grenfell Tower block fail, and they’ve got a huge responsibility. They have got thousands of residents, and these residents need to be safe. Through listening we have developed this product.

“It’s fantastic what SBD do to encourage dual Fire & Security testing ultimately increasing fire safety and at the same time reducing crime.”

SBD Senior Technical Officer Alfie Hosker said: “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Solidcor to the Secured by Design scheme, with their Enhanced Security / Fire Performance Door System, certificated by the IFC Certification Ltd.

“I know that Solidcor have invested a considerable amount time and research and development into this project to produce a quality system, which meets a number of other performance criteria too. I look forward to a successful partnership over the coming years.”
