“Theft of any items can be potentially devastating and by working with SBD we aim to reduce the threat of theft and provide much needed additional security"

SECURED has renewed its membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative.

Somerset’s SECURED’s vehicle and property DNA marking system permanently and covertly marks valuables with a unique DNA tag. Registering their ownership on the SECURED Registration System makes the treasured possessions easy to identify.

As well as business and household valuable, the DNA marking system is Ideally suited to cars, vans, motor cycles, motorhomes, caravans and HGV's, the permanent DNA technology will protect not only against the theft of the vehicle but will also uniquely identify all high value components, accessories and specialist fit items.

SBD Development Officer Emma Snow said: “'SECURED is now in its fourth year of membership with Secured by Design and I'm really pleased they have renewed for a further three years. The product provides an excellent deterrent to would-be thieves determined to deprive people of their most valued possessions and the testing the tracer has undertaken proves it can withstand extremes of temperature making it suitable for numerous applications”.

John Elliott, Managing Director SECURED said: “We are delighted to renew our membership with Secured by Design for a further 3 years. Theft of any items can be potentially devastating and by working with SBD we aim to reduce the threat of theft and provide much needed additional security”.

SBD is a police-owned organisation that works on behalf of the Police Service throughout the UK to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives.

SBD plays a significant crime prevention role in the planning process to design out crime in a wide range of building sectors. It has achieved some significant success including one million homes built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.

SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Police Service through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet the needs of the police and public alike.

Products must be subjected to vigorous testing and auditing by an accredited third party organisation before being allowed to carry the SBD logo – this is the only way for companies to obtain police accreditation for security related products in the UK.
