Youngs Doors Joins Secured by Design, Strengthening Their Commitment to Safety
Fire door specialists, Youngs Doors, has joined Secured by Design, the official national police security initiative.
Originally the joinery shop of a local building firm, John Youngs, the company began to produce fire rated flush doors. Fast forward nearly 50 years and Youngs Doors is now a market leader in supplying high performance fire doors and specialist doorsets to the commercial sector.
From their purpose built production facility in Norwich they manufacture a wide range of products including panel doors, flush doors, glazed screens, acoustic doors, PAS24 enhanced security doors and their renowned specialist fire doors, which are rigorously tested and subjected to temperatures of up to 1000 degrees.
Recent projects include the installation of 67 striking bright yellow internal doors at the Digi-Tech factory for the City College Norwich, 100 doorsets for the new Broadland Police Station, and multiple fire rating doors for a new GAP group warehouse. Youngs Doors works across a variety of sectors from commercial projects, education, healthcare, leisure and public services, retail, emergency services and housing / student accommodation sector.

Secured by Design (SBD) is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.
SBD seeks to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area using products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems along with fencing systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.
SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies.
SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through the Police Preferred Specification - a product-based accreditation scheme developed 25 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
