Access control specialist KMS gives away food and toys to help local communities

Key Management Systems Ltd (KMS), the UK’s leading supplier of residential access control products and services, has pledged to continue to support its chosen community and charitable causes to help those most in need as the country emerges from COVID-19 restrictions as it has done since the first national lockdown due to the pandemic just over 12 months ago.

One of the main beneficiaries of KMS’s community giving throughout 2020 has been The Wycombe Homeless Connection (WHC), a registered homeless charity operating in KMS’s home town of High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.

Funded almost entirely by its local community through personal and corporate donations, WHC helps people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Its range of support includes providing emergency accommodation, food packs, clothing and hygiene products as well as providing a connection to support services, such as social support, benefits and counselling.

Donations enabled WHC to deliver 40 double-sized food parcels, including fresh fruit and vegetables in advance of Christmas Day, to people in emergency and temporary accommodation as well as hold its traditional Christmas lunch for people in need on 25 December at a church in the town.

At the end of 2020, KMS teamed up with partner organisation, F.Bamford (Engineering) Ltd, known in the industry as Bamford Doors, a provider of security doors for communal blocks of flats, to support housing associations over Christmas with toys for children who may not have otherwise received presents. A total of 600 toys were distributed to Flintshire County Council, Beyond Housing (Yorkshire) and Milton Keynes Council.

In addition, KMS, Bamford Doors, and another key partner, Entrotec Limited, a company that manufactures and supplies high quality audio and video vandal resistant door entry, concierge systems and proximity access control systems, combined their resources in a December 2020 to run competition to give away two complete communal door entry solutions installed free to improve the security of two community buildings.

The installations to benefit from these gifts are a refuge for young, single parents in North Wales and safe accommodation for young people affected by homelessness in North East England. The installations are scheduled for April.

In addition, members of KMS’s senior management too have been involved in fund-raising activities directly such as Director Alan Cooney who has taken part in endurance events.

Tim Rogers, Director, Sales and Customer Relations at KMS, said: “KMS as a business has always been keen to support the community and over the last few tough months, we have been even more determined than ever to do our bit through corporate and staff giving.

“This is so important. For example, during the cold and wet winter months, the work of WHC was as important as ever, helping to keep the homeless and potentially homeless with a roof over their heads,” he explained.

During January, KMS announced its takeover by CAME UK, the market-leading automation and intercom manufacturer based in the Midlands, Hemel Hempstead and Dublin. It’s a move which will help KMS enhance its products and services, and support KMS in continuing its work with chosen charities.

KMS, Bamford Doors and Entrotec are all member companies of Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative, which seeks to improve the physical security of buildings by encouraging the use of products, such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems that meet SBD’s Police Preferred Specification, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime.

KMS has two products that have been accredited by SBD for meeting Police Preferred Specification. These are:

- Panel Mount Reader 46001 electronic door entry system, which has achieved STS 202 BR2 requirements
- SimpleKey Web secure fob access control system, which has been certified to ISO 27001:2013 information technology standards.
