ASD Lighting Join Secured by Design

Lighting specialists ASD Lighting are one of the latest companies to join Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative, with a unique and revolutionary product that combines both CCTV and lighting in to a single product – the ASD SmartWatch™ system.

Founded in 1982, ASD Lighting designs, develops and manufactures products from their 200,000 sq ft factory in the heart of South Yorkshire. The company prides itself on its reputation for innovation and quality, using the skills and expertise of the team to design and manufacture a unique portfolio of attractive, hard-wearing products, featuring practical and time saving installation features.

ASD Lighting have been manufacturing in the UK from their Rotherham factory for over 40 years, where they strive to use the latest manufacturing techniques.

ASD Lighting’s Secured by Design accredited product is the revolutionary ASD SmartWatch™ Combined Street Light and CCTV Unit. The ASD SmartWatch™ units combine one of the UK’s most widely installed LED streetlights with CCTV cameras into a single asset, which can be deployed permanently or as a temporary, re-deployable unit on new or existing lighting columns.

These units remove the need for planning permission, new dedicated power and CCTV columns by being deployed onto existing lighting columns and power circuits. A variety of different lighting and camera options are available depending on the location and the type of CCTV coverage required.

ASD Lighting’s SmartWatch™ products have already been successfully trialled and adopted by a range of clients including Local Authorities (anti-social behaviour), Police Forces (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) and Network Rail (suicide mitigation).

Matthew O’Hara, ASD Lighting, said: “We’re delighted to now have the ASD SmartWatch™ product in the Secured by Design portfolio of accredited products, having first developed and then spent several years working with early adoption partners, including the Police, to really perfect the product and overall solution. It truly is a revolutionary system, allowing instant and relatively cost-effective deployment of temporary or permanent CCTV utilising existing streetlighting column infrastructure and wiring.

“We’re really looking forward to speaking to Designing Out Crime Officers from more regions and exhibiting the ASD SmartWatch™ product at the SBD ATLAS 24 conference.”

Hazel Goss, Secured by Design, commented: “It has been a pleasure to have ASD Lighting join us as new members of Secured by Design. They have a very unique product, the ASD SmartWatch™ Combined Street Light and CCTV Unit which is the first in its particular category, and I am really looking forward to working with them for many years to come.”
