Atcost Windows Renew Membership with SBD

Welsh door and window suppliers, Capital Plastics t/a Atcost Windows, are the latest company to renew their membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative.

Capital Plastics was established in 1992, when Managing Director Richard and his father Doug saw a gap in the market for the sale of plastic building materials and windows to the trade and general public. In April of that year, Capital Plastics was born and a trade counter was opened in the city of Cardiff.

Quick success in the first year of trading and the increase in demand for uPVC windows put the company in a position to establish a manufacturing factory based in Llanelli, where Atcost Windows was formed.

Richard and Doug relocated their day-to-day running of the business back to Llanelli and Richard’s brother-in-law Steve joined as a Director, taking charge of running the trade counter in Cardiff. From here the company grew - manufacturing, supplying and installing uPVC windows throughout South Wales. In 1993 the company launched a second trade and DIY counter in Llanelli which is now based at their head office in Dafen.

Since then, Atcost Windows have gone on to become trusted suppliers and installers of a wide range of Secured by Design accredited doorsets and windows, demonstrating their commitment to customer security with high-quality products.

Mrs R Dorken, Atcost Windows, said: “We are delighted to renew our membership with Secured by Design. Hazel and the team are a pleasure to work with. We look forward to continuing to offer high quality products with security at the helm.”

Hazel Goss, Secured by Design, commented: “It has been a pleasure to renew contracts with Atcost Windows who have been members with us since 2020. They offer a fantastic range of doors and windows and are a lovely company to work with. I am looking forward to many more years working alongside them.”

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through the Police Preferred Specification - a product-based accreditation scheme developed over 20 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
