LITELOK survey shows half of cyclists hit by bike crime

The Welsh company is renowned for its extensive list of award-winning bike, e-bike and motorcycle locks which can be found here on their dedicated member’s page. Collaborating with some of the world’s leading material scientists and engineers LITELOK designs and produces some of the world’s lightest, flexible and insurance-rated locks for bikes, electric bikes and motorcycles.

On a mission to fight bike crime LITELOK recently conducted a comprehensive global bike theft survey to better understand bike theft trends and cyclists habits and behaviours, whilst also raising awareness of the problem.
The survey received over 4,000 from cyclists worldwide. The UK had the highest respondents, followed by the USA,  Germany, Canada, Ireland, Netherlands, France, and Australia.

Key findings showed that:

•    Nearly 50% of people had experienced bike theft
•    83% knew someone who had a bike stolen
•    76% identified that there weren’t enough secure places to leave their bike
•    Even though bike frame numbers were recorded many reported the police were unable to help

These results clearly show that bike theft is prevalent, and bike security is more important than ever before. Using high-quality certified locks can deter thieves, choose secure locations and store bikes in safe monitored areas where possible.

Secured by Design (SBD) is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.
