Secured by Design’s Secure Connected Device accreditation recognised in NPSA Cyber Security Standards

This is a significant achievement for Secured by Design and a crucial step forward in raising awareness of the need for robust security across Internet of Things (IoT) connected devices and mobile applications.

The NPSA’s Cyber Security Standards Comparison Guide (EIS0066) and Cyber Security Standards Comparison Reference Table (EIS0065) provide organisations with information that helps them understand and compare cyber security standards, ultimately helping them combat cyber threats in their products.

The inclusion of SCD within these materials highlights the growing importance of security standards and testing for the rapidly expanding IoT ecosystem.

Strengthening IoT connected technology

Connected devices are now a fundamental part of everyday life, from smart home technology and security products to the mobile applications used to control them. As reliance on these technologies continues to grow, new opportunities emerge for criminals to access devices, applications, or associated systems that aren’t adequately secured.

SCD was developed to address this challenge – it encourages manufacturers and developers to build security into connected products and services, while also providing police recognition for these solutions.

SBD Secure Connected Device accreditation

Secured by Design (SBD) is the UK’s official police security initiative dedicated to helping people live and connect more safely.

To address modern digital risks, SBD worked alongside the government to develop the Secure Connected Device (SCD) accreditation, the leading cyber security framework for smart tech and consumer IoT. Going beyond baseline legal requirements, the scheme awards the trusted ‘Police Preferred Specification’ mark to independently tested smart devices and mobile apps.

Developed in collaboration with safety partners including the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office and the National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls and Public Protection, the scheme prioritises personal privacy and digital safety, helping everyone, particularly vulnerable groups, use connected technology with confidence and peace of mind.
