Secured by Design welcomes KYNEKT as a new member

Secured by Design (SBD) is delighted to welcome KYNEKT as one of its newest members, recognising the company's innovative approach to protecting tools, plant and machinery from theft.

Tool theft continues to have a significant impact on the construction industry, with more than 25,500 tool thefts reported to UK police in 2024, equating to around 70 thefts every day. The value of stolen tools is estimated at £40 million annually, while the wider impact of lost work, project delays and vehicle damage is felt by businesses and tradespeople across the country.

Built specifically for the construction industry, KYNEKT has developed an integrated platform that helps tradespeople, contractors, hire companies and equipment owners prove ownership, protect valuable assets and respond quickly if theft occurs. Bringing together secure digital identification, equipment management, live tracking and a trusted resale marketplace, the platform is designed to make stolen equipment more difficult to use, recover and sell.

Two KYNEKT products have achieved Secured by Design Secure Connected Device accreditation -  KYNEKT TRAK and KYNEKT.ID.

KYNEKT TRAK is a discreet tracking device designed for tools, plant and machinery. Connected to the KYNEKT platform, it provides live GPS location, movement alerts and remote disable functionality, enabling owners to remotely disable tracked stolen equipment from anywhere in the UK. This gives users greater visibility of their equipment and helps improve the chances of recovering stolen assets.

KYNEKT.ID provides secure, AI-verified proof of ownership through a tamper-resistant digital identity and QR-backed ownership record. By creating a trusted record of ownership, it helps simplify the process of proving ownership to insurers and police while making stolen equipment significantly harder to resell.

Founded with the aim of tackling the growing challenge of equipment theft across the construction sector, KYNEKT has developed its platform around the needs of those who rely on their equipment every day. The company continues to expand its ecosystem, combining digital asset management with practical security solutions to help protect equipment throughout its entire lifecycle.

James Murdoch, Founder of Kynekt, said: “We are delighted that KYNEKT has been awarded Secured by Design accreditation. I started KYNEKT with the explicit aim of solving the theft epidemic that is impacting tradespeople up and down the country. We know my fellow tradies and I are (rightly so) a cynical bunch when it comes to new tech promising the world, but our GPS and inventory function really is the real deal, and so we are pleased that SBD and the UK Police Service agree and are backing the KYNEKT ID and K TRAK to reduce crime.”

Lyn Poole, Secured by Design, commented: "We are very pleased to welcome KYNEKT® and its accredited K TRAK® and KYNEKT ID® products to Secured by Design membership. At a time when economic pressures can contribute to rising levels of opportunistic crime, tool thefts from vehicles and construction sites are a growing concern. These crimes can have a devastating impact, affecting livelihoods and, in some cases, lives. This is far from a victimless crime, with tradespeople of all ages and across all sectors repeatedly falling victim. Alongside providing practical crime prevention advice, it is products and services such as those offered by KYNEKT® that can make a real difference in helping to prevent theft and protect those who rely on their tools every day."
