Selectamark Celebrates 25 Years with Secured by Design

Selectamark Security Systems is celebrating 25 years of membership with Secured by Design (SBD), marking a quarter of a century of supporting crime prevention through property marking, forensic coding and asset identification solutions.

Established in 1985, Selectamark has grown to become a leading supplier of theft deterrent and property identification products, helping homeowners, businesses, local authorities, schools, hospitals and law enforcement agencies protect valuable assets. Over the past four decades, the company has helped facilitate the marking of more than 75 million items, supporting efforts to reduce theft and improve the recovery of stolen property.

Working closely with police forces and law enforcement agencies in the UK and internationally, the company provides products, services and consultancy to support a wide range of crime prevention initiatives, including those targeting burglary, robbery, vehicle theft, cycle theft and metal theft.

As a long-standing member of Secured by Design, Selectamark has achieved Police Preferred Specification across a broad portfolio of products designed to deter criminal activity and assist in the identification and recovery of stolen property.

  • BikeRegister Secure Database Register

Many of Selectamark’s solutions are linked to a Loss Prevention Standard (LPS1224) database, helping to identify ownership and support the recovery of stolen property. Through continued innovation and collaboration with policing and security professionals, the company has remained at the forefront of property marking and forensic identification technologies.

James Brown, Managing Director, Selectamark, said: “We are extremely proud to celebrate 25 years as a Secured by Design member. Our partnership reflects Selectamark’s long-standing commitment to developing effective, police-approved crime prevention solutions that deter theft, support investigations and help reunite stolen property with its rightful owner."

Lyn Poole, Secured by Design, said: “Where does the time go? I have known Selectamark since 2005, when I moved from front-line policing into a Crime Prevention Officer role and later became a Designing Out Crime Officer. A lot has changed since Selectamark joined Secured by Design in 2001. The products and the innovative thinking behind them have evolved over the years, but their core purpose remains the same. Equally unchanged is the professionalism, dedication and hard-working ethos of the friendly and approachable team, who work tirelessly to provide products and information that help people protect their property and, should it be stolen, increase the chances of it being returned to its rightful owner.

“A great example of this is the work Selectamark has undertaken to tackle tool theft, partnering with the Metropolitan Police and other forces to encourage tradespeople to mark their tools. Following enforcement activity and police operations, many stolen items have been successfully reunited with their owners. Then, of course, there is the well-known BikeRegister scheme, which continues to play an important role in cycle security and recovery.

“Congratulations to Selectamark on 25 years with Secured by Design.”

Through its ongoing partnership with Secured by Design, Selectamark continues to support safer communities by providing practical and effective solutions that help protect property and reduce opportunities for crime.
