West Port Timber & Doors Celebrates 25 Years with Secured by Design

West Port Timber Windows, Doors & Fire Doorsets is celebrating 25 years of membership with Secured by Design (SBD), recognising a quarter of a century of commitment to manufacturing high performance timber windows and doors that combine security, quality and craftsmanship.

A successful British manufacturer based on the Cumbrian coast, West Port produces bespoke timber windows, doors and fire doorsets for both domestic and commercial applications. Operating from its purpose-designed 175,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility, the company supplies projects across the UK through a network of licensed distributors.

West Port has built its reputation on combining technical expertise with quality engineering to produce products that complement both traditional and contemporary architecture. Alongside its bespoke manufacturing capabilities, the company has invested in advanced production technology, including one of only two high-tech electrostatic paint plants in the UK.

Sustainability also plays an important role in the company's approach to manufacturing. Timber is sourced from sustainable and responsibly managed forests, and West Port's products are designed to offer long service life while reducing environmental impact.

As a long-standing member of Secured by Design, West Port has achieved Police Preferred Specification across a range of timber window and doorset systems, including:

  • Cauldwell Tilt & Slide Vertically Sliding Timber Window Range
  • System X (PN Uni/Maco) Fell Window Range
  • Dual Swing Timber Casement Window Range
  • Maelstrom Timber Doorset Range
  • Thirlmere Timber Doorset Range

For 25 years, West Port has demonstrated its commitment to producing secure, high quality timber products that meet the requirements of modern construction while maintaining the character and appearance of traditional craftsmanship. Its continued partnership with Secured by Design reflects a shared commitment to creating safer homes and buildings through independently tested, security-focused products.

Laura Miller, Technical Manager at West Port Timber & Doors, said: “Reaching this 25-year milestone with Secured by Design is a proud moment for West Port. During that time, construction requirements have changed considerably, particularly around product testing, security and specification evidence. We have continued to develop our bespoke manufacturing capabilities in response, giving customers and specifiers confidence in the products they select. This recognition reflects the skill and attention to detail of everyone at West Port who has helped us maintain these standards over the years.”

Hazel Goss, Secured by Design, commented: “It has been a pleasure to present West Port with their 25-year membership award and to thank them for their continued support and valued membership of Secured by Design. I have been their Development Officer for over seven years now, and it is always lovely to catch up during a visit, as they always make me feel very welcome.”

Secured by Design

Secured by Design (SBD) is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.

SBD seeks to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area using products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems along with fencing systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.

SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through the Police Preferred Specification - a product-based accreditation scheme developed over 25 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
