"We always strive to be at the forefront of the market for testing and certification"
Selo, a manufacturer and supplier of fully compliant internal doorsets and associated products, is one of the latest companies to join Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative.
Specialising in the design and manufacture of internal doorsets, riser doors, access panels and related systems, Selo provides solutions that support modern construction projects across both residential and commercial sectors. The company focuses on simplifying complex building methods through innovative design and high quality manufacturing, enabling developers and designers to achieve both functionality and performance without compromise.
Selo’s Modulo Timber Doorset Range, designed for the retrofit market, combines enhanced security with fire and smoke performance, has achieved Secured by Design Police Preferred Specification. This demonstrates that the product has met the rigorous standards required by the initiative, providing reassurance that it delivers effective and reliable security performance alongside its fire safety capabilities.
The company is recognised for its collaborative approach, working closely with project teams to provide detailed support at every stage of development. Through its Halo Assist framework, Selo offers structured guidance and technical expertise, helping to ensure that products are specified, manufactured and installed to meet the required standards.
Selo has built a strong reputation for innovation within the sector, introducing new product solutions and features that have gone on to become widely adopted across the industry. Its focus on reducing risk through extensive fire testing, technical knowledge and bespoke manufacturing capabilities further supports the delivery of high quality, compliant building solutions.
By joining Secured by Design, Selo reinforces its commitment to developing products that not only meet the demands of modern construction, but also contribute to creating safer and more secure environments.
Nathan Palmer, Director of the Retrofit Business Unit at Selo, said: “Becoming SBD accredited is another great step towards the Modulo system being the leading recognised choice for retrofitted fire doors in the market today. We always strive to be at the forefront of the market for testing and certification, and look forward to working with the SBD team further in future too.”
Alfie Hosker, Secured by Design, commented: “We are pleased to welcome Selo to Secured by Design. Their focus on innovative internal doorset solutions that combine security with fire and smoke performance strongly aligns with the aims of the initiative, and we look forward to working with them going forward.”

Secured by Design
Secured by Design is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.
SBD seeks to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area using products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems along with fencing systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.
SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies.
SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through the Police Preferred Specification - a product-based accreditation scheme developed over 25 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
