DORIX Delivers Layered Security with The Alnwick Cylinder
Expert door, lock and access solutions company, DORIX, has joined Secured by Design (SBD) with its high security cylinder, The Alnwick, which meets the initiative’s rigorous police security standards.
DORIX is committed to making high-quality security solutions accessible to all, from individual homeowners to professional clients. The company offers a wide range of door, access and lock solutions for residential and smart homes, along with hotels, serviced apartments, retail outlets and offices, gyms and sports clubs, hospitals and clinics, educational institutions, distribution and transport facilities and more.
Based in London, the company was founded by a team of industry specialists, and their ethos combines the heritage of British engineering with the latest security hardware and software advances. The name, DORIX is derived from ‘Dor’, emphasising their focus on entrances, and ‘Ix’, representing innovation and continuous development.
The Alnwick cylinder, featured here on the DORIX SBD dedicated member’s page, takes its name from Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, renowned for its strong walls and defences against attacks and sieges. Inspired by the castle’s layered fortifications, the cylinder has been engineered to withstand sustained attacks and deliver robust multi-layered security.
Certified to the highest UK and European security standards, The Alnwick is rated BSI 3 Stars, Sold Secure Diamond, it is FD30/60 fire-door rated, and now has Secured by Design accreditation. DORIX is so confident about its performance that the cylinder is backed by £10,000 anti-burglary guarantee.
The Alnwick has been rigorously engineered to defend against both common and advanced attack methods, including:
• Snapping, picking, bumping, pulling, and drilling
• Freeze attacks and glue-based sabotage
• Manipulation resistance via a patented 9-pin mechanism
• A snap-secure cam that preserves internal operation during an attack

Available in half, double, and thumbturn configurations, the cylinder is offered in a range of finishes including satin nickel, polished chrome, and polished brass — combining security with design flexibility.
Lyn Poole, SBD Development Officer, said, “It’s a pleasure to welcome DORIX on board as an SBD member starting their products off with the Alnwick 3 Star lock, with an anti-burglary guarantee. I look forward to seeing what they add to their Police preferred products soon and working with them in the future.”
John Gill, VP Sales & Marketing at DORIX added, “Joining Secured by Design is an important step for DORIX. It reflects our commitment to raising the standard of physical security through layered protection and rigorous engineering. The Alnwick is just the beginning we’ll be seeking accreditation on more of our portfolio in the coming months.”
