Sold Secure welcome Crime Prevention and Designing Out Crime Officers

One of the UK's premier testing and certification house for security products opened their doors to police Designing Out Crime and Crime Prevention Officers from constabularies across England recently, as part of a special insight day into the physical testing of security products.

Sold Secure is dedicated to reducing the risk of crime by the assessment of security products. Established in 1992 by Northumbria and Essex Police with the help and backing of the Home Office, Sold Secure is now owned and administered by the Master Locksmiths Association (a not-for-profit trade association) and works from purpose-built laboratories in Rugby. Sold Secure is dedicated to reducing the risk of crime by the assessment of security products through manual attack testing. Manufacturers and suppliers can apply to have products approved by Sold Secure. Products which have been satisfactorily assessed may bear the coveted Sold Secure Approved quality mark.

The UK Police Service has a number of highly specialised Crime Prevention and Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) whose role is to provide specialist security advice and guidance in order to minimise the potential for crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.

Discussions took place around product standards and testing, along with a laboratory tour where the officers were able to see the physical testing that is undertaken on products.

Attending the insight day at Sold Secure were officers representing Warwickshire Police, Staffordshire Police, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Northamptonshire Police and Nottinghamshire Police, along with representatives from the official police security initiative, Secured by Design.

Hazel Goss, Secured by Design, said: “I wish to thank Sold Secure for holding our Awareness Day and making our day very interesting.  It is great to see how products are tested and tools used to gain entry and the day provided so much knowledge and understanding and I know we all had a great day with excellent feedback from all that attended.  I would like to thank them all for their hospitality and taking time out of their busy schedules to hold the event”.

Guy McCaffery, Sold Secure, said: “It was great to welcome the officers to our test facility and I hope they all found the day useful and enjoyable. We hope to do more of this type of event, sharing our knowledge and resources, and strengthening our relationship with the Police Service. I’d like to thank all who attended, and special thanks to Hazel Goss of Secured by Design for organising the event with us”.
