The IFSEC 2019 Security Expo was a busy one for Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (PCPI), with the launch of the Police Digital Security Centre (PDSC), a new Secured by Design (SBD) Alarm Standard and a host of SBD activity at the show.
The PDSC launched with the mission of reducing the vulnerability of organisations to cyber-crime and helping to support them with digital security challenges, bringing the first police-backed cyber-security certification schemes to market in a collaboration with BSI (British Standards Institution). This unique and recognisable certification will assist those seeking a clear differential in a very crowded and ever-changing digital security marketplace. Four early adopters of the certification scheme were at the launch - Yubico, Data2Vault, Turrem Group and Neo Fintech Lab.
A new SBD Alarm Standard also launched at the show. The new standard is not a replacement for the National Police Chiefs Council Security Systems Policy (NPCC SSP), or an alternative for certification by a UKAS accredited certification body (currently delivered by NSI or SSAIB), but incorporates the existing criteria whilst building on police and industry knowledge and expertise to produce the new, enhanced, SBD Alarm Standard. The British Security Industry Association (BSIA), the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) and National Security Inspectorate (NSI) all supported the launch of the new standard.
SBD Senior Technical Officer Michael Brooke delivered a seminar at the FIREX event, ‘Keeping buildings safe with third party certification’.
The LPCB Attack Testing Zone programme saw LPCB’s security experts conducting live attack tests on a wide range of perimeter and façade security products, as well as safes, security enclosures and padlocks. SBD member companies CLD Fencing, dormakaba, Jacksons Fencing, ASSA ABLOY, Bradbury Group and Sunray Engineering all had products put through their paces in the zone.
SBD member companies at the show included Abloy UK Ltd, Axis Communications, Bradbury Group Ltd, CLD Fencing Systems, CSL, DefendaStrip Ltd, dormakaba, Frontier Pitts Ltd, Jacksons Fencing, PAC GDX, RISCO Group, SALTO Systems Ltd, Squire, Sunray Engineering, Verint Video UK Ltd, Cyclehoop Ltd, Cyclepods Ltd, Lone Worker Solutions Ltd, Master Lock UK, Securikey Limited, Skyguard, SoloProtect Limited & GERDA®.
