SBD presents its crime prevention messages to Police Force media teams

Secured by Design (SBD) was in pole position to present its crime prevention messages to Police Force media teams at the Association of Police Communicators’ annual conference on 7-9 November.

Positioned between the two entrance doors to the main presentation suite at Belton Woods Hotel, Grantham, Lincs, SBD Press Officers Julian Hurst and Colin Walden explained SBD’s role in supporting the Police Service and presented delegates with a brochure specifically written for the conference.

Julian and Colin worked with conference organisers to ensure SBD was mentioned from the stage on all three days – especially important as Thursday was attended by 160 delegates and was the conference’s best turnout for 40 years!

Julian said this was a most worthwhile conference with delegates that can promote our crime prevention messages externally to their own media contacts and internally to staff and officers of all ranks. “It is fair to say we were noticed and welcomed by everyone. The networking opportunities were fantastic.”

Colin added: “This was a great opportunity to build relationships. We are keen to return next year and increase our presence and impact.”

SBD’s brochure was entitled: ‘Secured by Design: A partner to the Police Service’. Its eight pages highlighted ways SBD could work with Police media teams, such as providing them with crime prevention stories.

It also explained how Designing Out Crime Officers embedded with Forces work to incorporate crime prevention techniques into all types of building developments throughout the UK to reduce demand on the Police Service and make communities safer and stronger.

Police Force media teams represented at the conference included: Avon and Somerset; Bedfordshire; Cambridgeshire; Derbyshire; Devon, Cornwall and Dorset; Dyfed-Powys; Essex; Gloucestershire; Greater Manchester; Hampshire; Hertfordshire; Humberside; Lancashire; Leicestershire; Lincolnshire; Metropolitan Police; Norfolk; North Wales; Northamptonshire; Northumbria; Nottinghamshire, Police Scotland; South Wales; South Yorkshire; Staffordshire; Suffolk; Surrey; Sussex; Thames Valley; Warwickshire and West Mercia; West Midlands; West Yorkshire; and Wiltshire.

There were also representatives present from British Transport Police; College of Policing; National Counter Terrorism Policing HQ; National Crime Agency; National Police Chiefs’ Council, National Ballistics Intelligence Service; the Police Federation, the PRCA, PRgloo and Granicus. There was even a representative from police in Bermuda.
