Hammerglass join Secured by Design
Swedish security glazing specialists Hammerglass have joined Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative, with a range of high-performance glazing products achieving Police Preferred Specification.

Founded in 1993, Hammerglass started with the mission of reducing the costs associated with replacing broken glass. Since then, the company has grown to become a leading manufacturer of glazing solutions, supplying customers across Europe and selected overseas markets. With subsidiaries in Norway, Denmark and Germany, Hammerglass has built a reputation for reliability, innovation and expertise within the security glazing sector.
Hammerglass products are made from a durable and wear-resistant polycarbonate sheet that is 300 times stronger than glass and virtually unbreakable. Screens are coated with a thin silicon oxide film which protects against scratches, wear and tear, while nanotechnological surface treatment makes the glazing resistant to most chemicals. This enables easy removal of graffiti, provides 99.96% UV protection and prevents clouding, discolouration or other changes in visual quality over time. With an estimated service life of more than 40 years, Hammerglass offers long-term value alongside exceptional levels of security.
Among the Hammerglass products accredited by SBD with Police Preferred Specification are:
Glazing
- Hammerglass Glazing System 6mm to P7b
- Hammerglass Glazing System 8mm to P8b

Secured by Design
Secured by Design (SBD) is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.
SBD seeks to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area using products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems along with fencing systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.
SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies.
SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through the Police Preferred Specification - a product-based accreditation scheme developed 25 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
