Premdor Celebrates 25 Years with Secured by Design

Having joined Secured by Design in 2001, Premdor has maintained its relationship with the scheme through significant changes in security standards, testing requirements and the wider built environment. The milestone reflects the company's long-standing commitment to independently tested security and the continued development of products designed to meet demanding performance requirements.

Premdor has extensive experience in the manufacture of timber doors and doorsets and is one of the UK's leading manufacturers in the sector. Its product range includes doors and doorsets for a variety of residential and commercial applications, with particular expertise in fire-rated products.

Premdor's approach brings together fire performance, security and other requirements within complete doorset solutions, helping to simplify specification and sourcing while ensuring products are designed and tested to perform as expected.

25 years of evolving security standards

Premdor's 25-year relationship with Secured by Design has spanned a period of considerable change in the security industry.

While the core principle of Secured by Design remains the same, encouraging the use of tested and certified products and good design to help deter and reduce crime, the scheme has continued to develop alongside changing crime risks, technology, legislation and recognised standards.

Over the past 25 years, Secured by Design has expanded to cover a wide range of products and applications, from doors, windows and locks to vehicle security, property marking, cycle security, perimeter protection and connected technology.

The introduction of Secure Connected Device accreditation also reflects the growing importance of considering digital vulnerabilities alongside physical security.

For manufacturers such as Premdor, this has meant continuing to meet the requirements of an evolving security landscape while maintaining a focus on independently tested and certified products.

Secured by Design

Secured by Design (SBD) is the UK’s official police security initiative, working to help communities live more safely in well-designed, supportive environments. 

As a self-funded, not-for-profit organisation established in 1989, SBD collaborates with the building industry to design out crime from early concept to completion, providing free, practical Design Guides and specialist advice via police Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) to support development awards.
