What is Secured by Design?
Secured by Design (SBD) is the long-established official police security initiative operated by the UK Police Service. SBD provides a recognised standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime and keep you safe – the Police Preferred Specification product accreditation scheme.
Products that carry the SBD logo have been subject to rigorous testing and additionally been fully certificated by an independent, third-party certification body accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service, or European equivalent.
SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.
What practical benefits does this bring for you?
SBD accredited products will reduce the likelihood of you becoming a victim of crime and help keep you safer. Because products are robust, they will last longer too.
Studies led by the University of Surrey (2016-17) have found that SBD is good for the environment too. Burglary prevention measures installed individually or in combination, were found to produce less carbon emissions than an incidence of burglary.
