Fencing first for Secured by Design member company Zaun at Vancouver psychiatric hospital

A psychiatric hospital in Vancouver, Canada, has been upgraded with British security fencing provided by Secured by Design (SBD) member company Zaun.

British Columbia fencing installer Streamline Fencing Ltd installed a total of 300m of Zauns HiSec 358 fencing to secure the 190-bed Colony Farms Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Vancouver. The hospital treats and rehabilitates people who have crossed the law and are deemed unfit to stand trial or not criminally responsible due to mental illness.

The HiSec 358 secure mesh fencing, which is SBD accredited in the UK having achieved Police Preferred Specification, is 4m high, anti-climb fencing and provides full through-visibility with special clamp bars and fixings.  It is the first time Zaun fencing has been used in Canada.

The fencing has created a safe and secure hospital that is aesthetically pleasing to the patients, staff and to the local community.

British Columbia Mental Health Services are so delighted with the result that they are looking at using a similar product on another hospital on Vancouver Island – while Streamline are in discussions to become the accredited distributor for Zaun in North America.

Streamline’s Phil Murphy said: “Zaun’s professional approach to the project was outstanding. They had an amazing choice of products for the application. The details in the specifications & drawings answered all the questions that our client had in relation to the product and installation.”
