Gate Safe Register Hits 1,000

August 2017: Nearly seven years since Gate Safe became the first organisation to initiate a campaign for improved standards in automated gate safety, the charity marked another important milestone, as it celebrated hitting 1,000 installers on its acclaimed national register of Gate Safe Aware Installers.

The training session at Trade Skills 4 U – the UK’s no 1 provider of electrical training which regularly hosts Gate Safe Aware training – was attended by 17 delegates, including 4 from Acctive Systems, signifying 1,000 trained Gate Safe Aware installers in the UK.

A development of new homes in Portree, the main town on the Isle of Skye, has gained the highest award given by Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative, for incorporating crime prevention techniques into the layout and landscaping and the physical security of buildings.

The SBD Gold Award was presented to Lochalsh & Skye Housing Association for their development at Pat Gordon Place, Portree, a bustling port, cultural centre and tourist destination on the east side of the island.

A UK-based company specialising in providing perimeter technology such as barriers and bollards to prevent vehicle attacks, has renewed its membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative.

Heald Ltd, based in Hornsea, East Riding of Yorkshire, is one of the largest manufacturers of security equipment in the UK with a global client base which includes military sites, presidential buildings, palaces, embassies, border controls, airports, oil refineries, stadia, banks, shopping malls and government buildings.

Jones Building Group achieves Secured by Design Gold Award for new homes in Bournemouth

Jones Building Group has been presented with the Secured by Design (SBD) Gold Award for incorporating police crime prevention measures into the layout and landscaping as well as the physical security of buildings at a new home development in Bournemouth.

The development was built for Bournemouth Borough Council, which requires all of their new homes to reach SBD standards for physical security, such as doors, windows and locks. However, the development in Cheshire Drive went one step further to incorporate proven crime prevention techniques into the built environment too, such as natural surveillance and defensible space to deter criminal activity.

Dual certification becomes a Secured by Design requirement in wake of Grenfell fire

Non-fire resisting doors in high rise tower blocks should be replaced immediately with doorsets that are certified for fire performance by a third-party certification authority, according to the Government.

The move, which comes in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy in West London, requires replacement doorsets to be certified by an independent UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited, third-party certification authority to a standard providing at least 30 minutes fire resistance.

Secured by Design welcomes DCLG letter on Police guidance at planning stage

The Government has reminded Local Authorities to seek planning guidance from the Police Service to help keep local communities safe and secure from crime – a move welcomed by Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative.

A letter dated 12 July from Steve Quartermain, Chief Planning Officer for England, stated that the planning system has an important role to ensure measures are in place to deal with counter-terrorist and crime prevention security in order to create safe and accessible communities.

Runners Sliding Systems, a specialist in sliding door gear, has joined Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative, which seeks to ‘design out crime’ in a number of ways including raising standards of physical security of buildings, such as having more secure doors, windows and locks.

Tommafold bi-fold door gear, a Runners Sliding Systems product, has attained SBD’s Police Preferred Specification status following a review of Tommafold’s PAS 24: 2016 test report evidence and Tommafold’s safety features.

One is an inward and outward opening, double leaf PVC-U doorset with integral sidelight. The other is a composite inward opening, single leaf doorset with part glazing.
