Austrian lock specialists EVVA join SBD

Austrian locking technology specialist EVVA has joined Secured by Design (SBD), the UK’s police crime prevention initiative, which seeks to improve building security to reduce crime.

SBD has accredited six of the company’s Euro Profile cylinder locks – all BSI Kitemark certified: 3KSplus, EPS and MCS.

Ring Video Doorbell and Ring Stick Up Cam have attained SBD’s Police Preferred Specification after being accredited by a technical panel comprising a number of security industry experts. Ring is the first company to have a smart doorbell system accredited by SBD.

A film showing how Secured by Design (SBD), the national crime prevention initiative, is working with Police Forces and other organisations around the country to reduce crime, was shown as part of the Police Federation of England and Wales' annual conference this week.

The four-minute film was included in a specially-made series of programmes collectively called Above and Beyond produced by the Police Federation of England & Wales in partnership with ITN Productions, ITN's bespoke production hub, and is introduced by national newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky.

A study led by an Engineering Doctorate student at the University of Surrey has found that the carbon footprint of crime over the last 20 years has fallen.

The study, published in the British Journal of Criminology, applied estimates of the carbon footprint of criminal offences to police-recorded crime and self-reported victimisation survey data, to estimate the carbon footprint of crime in England and Wales between 1995 and 2015.
